yarn along

" Two of my favorite things are knitting and reading, and the evidence of this often shows up in my photographs.  I love seeing what other people are knitting and reading as well. So, what are you knitting or crocheting right now? What are you reading? Take a photo and share it either on your blog or on Flickr. Leave a link below to share your photo with the rest of us! "
~ From Ginny of Small Things
Knitting:
Still working on the Perkins Cove.

Reading:
Getting ready to start Knitting Yarns: Writers on Knitting, this was recommended by Amazon while I was looking at Adventures in Yarn Farming, getting to know more about sheep farming for a future visit to a local sheep farm.
Finished reading Gargoyle Knight, happy ending {Yea!} but not classified as romance it's more of fantasy or sci-fi. It was fun to read about gargoyle lore and myth an easy read and I may try something else from this author.

I'd like to share a site I found out about through this post. I have been thinking about joining some kind of bible study but working full time and kids at home I find it hard to join a group. I also wanted to involve the kids, we tried reading the bible {using kids bibles which help to explain somethings} but I can't answer a lot of their questions.

I started following the online women's group SheReadsTruth, with their last plan "the risen Christ" and I am enjoyed it. They have short study plans which actually work for me, I don't feel overwhelmed and able to finish reading. I love getting the emails from them and find myself opening it several times during the day because I enjoy the pictures and reading the comments from everyone.

Tomorrow they are starting "Nehemiah". If you are interested in participating or just checking out.

The kids and I will be starting up a daily bible study guide in the evenings and we will be following along with the group. I think they will enjoy it as well.

Hope you all had a great weekend!

yarn along and band concert

Knitting:
It's yarn along Wednesday and I've started on my Perkins Cove top. I also joined a knit a-long with Very Shannon for May that starts today if you want to check it out or peek at other peoples projects. I'm hoping this will encourage me to finish by the end of the month. I'm loving this yarn, Sparrow, from Quince&Co. it's 100% organic linen and it's really nice, doesn't feel papery and it knits up like smooth butter!!! One of the gals at my local yarn store {They just started carrying Quince&Co so I don't think they have it available on their website yet} helped me pick out the color, it's juniper a greenish almost silvery color. My AWESOME coworkers gave me a gift card for Administrative day which I so enjoyed spending on this yarn, pattern and I got a free tote! Thanks guys!!!!
I'm patting myself on the back because I made a swatch {and blocked it} for my top, since this is the first garment I am making I figured I need all the help I can get. Also I plan to use this yarn again so it maybe helpful to have a swatch. I keep holding it and looking at it...yes I am a goober! Look at my swatch, look at my swatch!
I finished my Fibonacci blanket...YEA!!! now I just have ends to weave in. It will be nice for the Fall.

Reading:
I started to read "Gargoyle Knight", it's basically a romance. I love happy endings, where the villain is defeated and good triumphs, yes I am a romantic dreamer. It has obviously gargoyle lore and myth around Celtic culture. I've only read several chapters and it's set in present day, so I don't have a recommendation yet. I paused on reading "Oh myyy! There goes the internet"  and plan to pick it up next month.

Summer Band Concert:
Yesterday was my son Rem's Spring concert. They did great and I'm happy to know that he plans to stay with his clarinet for another year. {I also played the clarinet in Jr. High so it makes me happy he likes it}. Later this week he is auditioning for Advance Band. Good Luck!  He is still so little, my precious baby boy!...{sigh}

yarn along

 It's yarn along day.

So I'm finishing up my Fabonacci blanket I started a while back [like 2 1/2 years ago...ohhh so painful to say, since it was suppose to take only a couple of months]. I finish Luna's Basket Scarf and I blocked it, first time blocking. What a difference it makes, the stitches look so much better after and the yarn got softer.

Reading, Oh myyy! There Goes The Internet by George Takei. A friend of mine recommended it. I've since friended George Takei on FB [thanks Janet for your help with that!], love his posts they are funny! I really didn't know that much about him until I started reading his book. I have a twitter account I've never used [which I believe he twitters a lot], I get on Facebook mostly to keep up with my quilt guild, I like Pinterest & Flicker and I'm starting to post more on Instagram, but mostly I enjoy blogs. This does not include Ravelry, Etsy, & Goodreads time...whew! Well back to George, it's kind of an autobiography on his increased presence and popularity in the ether. So far I am really getting a good laugh and I can hear his voice when I say "Oh Myyy!" can you?

Have a great Wednesday!

books

Happy Friday!
I've checked out some books from the library and some from my own library [I'm a book lover so I love to say that, "my library"...hehe!] This weekend I'm hoping to finish clearing out the garden and get it ready for planting, but I have some homework first...

Roots Shoots Buckets & Books - Really fun book for ideas to grow a children's garden and including them in the process.
Oklahoma Gardener's Guide - Plants for my area. I'm hoping to add native perennials because I tend to buy plants that do better in warmer climates. [Like plants that I grew up with in Mexico and California they don't do so well here.]
Toad Cottages and Shooting Stars - Have not read this one yet but it's by the same auther as Roots Shoots Buckets & Boots and it continues with the children's theme gardening.
The Medicinal Herb Grower - Will read this weekend but it's goes into growing a medicinal garden.
Grow Your Food For Free (Well, Almost) - I'm hoping to improve my vegetable garden. Normally I only grow tomatoes I'm hoping to expand!

Have a great weekend!

herb fest #2

Jenks Herb Fest

This is the second weekend at the herb fest for me and the boys. We were there at the crack of dawn when they opened! [-er 8am, early for me on a weekend]. This one was bigger than last weekend and they had great plants too, lots of bougainvilleas. [Which of course I didn't take any pictures of]. We took a break and had some chocolate croissants...mmmmm.
Ram, loves selfies...haha!

I only got two plants, go figure, but I'm saving my pennies for the others shows.  The large plant Clerodendron Thomsonae is a sort of bleeding heart. It will be a house plant because it will not survive in our climate. The other "desert rose" Adenium Obesum, the tree trunk just won me over, [very bonsai looking] and my little new African basket in purple because L would love it.
After coming home I got inspired to get the garden cleared out, this looks a lot better than it had before. No before shot, it was wayyyy to embarrassing. It was all covered in weeds and grass, still is a little on the right side. Will keep working on it but this will be my before shot... I usually just plant herbs and vegetables but I may add flowers this year. Ram digging a hole in his quest for worms...as long as they are out and getting dirty I don't mind the holes.
Hope everyone had a great Easter weekend!
