spirit

Yesterday's catechism reading made me think about things regarding "poverty of spirit".

"Though he is rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that by his poverty you might become rich"
2 Corinthians 8:9

Every year as we head into the holiday season I want to teach my children the meaning of each holiday and enjoy what each has to offer. There are so many material things to buy and I'm torn between simple and extravagant. How much we waste and have compared to other cultures. I would like for the kids and ourselves to enjoy the simple gifts of nature, life and what we have to offer each other from our souls.

I work downtown so I see quite a few homeless people and I'm always unsure when handing money out. I want to help those who need it, but at the same time I don't want to be made a fool by a scam-er. I guess we just have to have faith and give with an open heart.

This holiday season I will make it simpler for our family, and enjoy the meaning of what we celebrate.

"Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven"
Matthew 5:3
