farewell to autumn

A Fall Song

Golden and red trees
Nod to the soft breeze,
As it whispers, "Winter is near;"
And the brown nuts fall
At the wind's loud call,
For this is the Fall of the year.

Good-by, sweet flowers!
Through bright Summer hours
You have filled our hearts with cheer
We shall miss you so,
And yet you must go,
For this is the Fall of the year.

Now the days grow cold,
As the year grows old,
And the meadows are brown and sere;
Brave robin redbreast
Has gone from his nest,
For this is the Fall of the year.

I do softly pray
At the close of the day,
That the little children, so dear,
May as purely grow
As the fleecy snow
That follows the Fall of the year.

by Ellen Robena Fields

This poem was assigned to Ram at school to memorize this month. I love it as much as I love fall, the smell, feel, the colors, the clothes (yes I said that, I love all those sweaters, scarfs and hats you can still wear without having to cover up every inch of skin) and the changes, as everything is dying but it is only getting ready to sleep through winter and wake up again in the spring.  We are getting ready for the Winter Solstice.

this moment

{this moment} - A Friday ritual. A single photo - no words - capturing a moment from the week. A simple, special, extraordinary moment. A moment I want to pause, savor and remember. - Inspired by SouleMama.

thanksgiving

As the holiday season is under way, I think of those less fortunate than myself and include them in my thoughts, prayers, and giving. May we all have enough to eat this Thanksgiving day and days to come.

Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
2 Corinthians 9:7

Hope you all had a wonderful Happy Thanksgiving!

captains and butterfly

Halloween almost came and went while I was blinking...haha! This was  L's first year to trick or treat and she had a lot of fun which makes all the trouble worth while when the kids have a great time.

Okay, so the spiders webs don't look that great, but we had strong winds a couple of weeks before Halloween and they got all messed up. I had to redo them they didn't look like they had at first.

Here are the boys right before they went trick or treating with the pumpkins they carved!
L getting ready to head out.

Here they are...Airline Captain (Ram), Butterfly (L) and Captain Nemo (Rem).

Just a note I did not make the butterfly costume my mother in law bought it and L has been wearing it quite a bit since she got it.

Next holiday...

spooky

We are almost ready for Halloween, we just need candy and costumes...haha!
I did manage to put up some decorations this year (with Ram's help), hopefully they don't blow away in the next couple of days.

The fireplace.

Front of the house

Ram's room and there's mistletoe (paper) from last year. He found the decorations and hung them up himself!

halloween runner

I finally got my Halloween runner finished, it's from Alexander Henry's Ghastlies fabrics. The 2009 collection, but I think I bought it in 2010...haha, how time flies! I'm pretty happy with how it turned out and you can see some of my green pumpkins from the pumpkin patch trip. I wish I had bought more of the fabric it's very cute! Got some practice with swirls on the quilting, curves are a bit of a challenge for me, I tend to get bigger and I managed to keep the proportions even.  Yea one WIP off my list!

scottfest

This past weekend I dragged everyone to the Scottfest, it was drag because they wanted to go eat somewhere else and it looked like it was going to rain. It sprinkled a bit but not much. The kids where not too thrilled with the food selection...haha!

You can see downtown Tulsa in the background and the dreary day, this fest is held Riverside West Festival Park.
Yea, men in skirts!!! hahaha!

Several good bands but this is Celtica, the guitarist at the left had flames come out of his guitar and he breathed fire, but I was too slow and didn't get a picture of that, but I got a t-shirt. haha!

L, at the amphitheater.

Blacksmith

Stone carver, who was also at the Renaissance Faire this summer.

a little taste of India

I dragged everyone to the Utsay IndiaFest in Tulsa a couple of weekends ago. In September and October there are a lot of festivals around Tulsa and this year I was trying to get to most of them. How can a food lover like me pass this up!?!?! I had a great time and until the fashion show started the boys were doing okay. Everything is so bright and colorful it was fun to see. This is the first time I had Indian food and it was yummy. The kids got a camel ride and I got a henna tattoo!

The event was one day at the Expo Square Pavilion at Tulsa Fairgrounds, built in 1932 it is an example of the Art Deco style  that is a huge part of  Tulsa.

Having lunch.

This was a cold item and it was sweet and sour, it was good, but I was the only who ate it...haha!

This dish was warm and it was really yummy, kids liked the bread.

My henna tattoo right after they finished it.

 Camel rides!

They had displays for all the states in India and the religions, it was very interesting and all the people where very nice.

The fashion show, by this time the boys were done...haha!

L got some pretty purple bracelets, her favorite color. She was funny she kept her hands up the whole time I guess she thought they would fall off ...hehe!

Me and my bindi, fashion accessory, the kids did not like it so I left it on all day...hehe!
