shrimp on three kings day...?

Did you guys have rosca (king cake) Sunday for Epiphany, (Dia de Los Reyes Magos)? 

We did, along with chocolate and shrimp...yup shrimp. It wasn't planned. Rog didn't want any cake and decided to have shrimp then the rest of us ate some too. It looks like I made the cake because it's on a cookie sheet but just to get it straight I bought it at the store, it just broke while I was taking it home and I was trying to keep it together.

  

I can't really say who got the baby, Ram saw it sticking out and Rem got the piece that had it but he gave it to Ram because he didn't want to make the tamales on the 2nd of February  for El Dia de la Candelaria (Candlemas). So, L ended up with the baby, but I will still have to make tamales or actually Rog and I will make them because he helps...ya good hubby!

the bottom line

I had to share Ram's monthly poem with you guys, because we all need to believe in ourselves.

The Bottom Line

Face it.
Nobody owes you a living.
What you achieve or fail to achieve in your lifetime
is directly related to what you do
or fail to do.
No one chooses his parents or childhood
but you can choose your own direction.
Everyone has problems and obstacles to overcome
but that too is relative to each individual.

Nothing is carved in stone.
You can change anything in your life
if you want to badly enough.
Excuses are for losers.
Those who take responsibility for their actions
are the real winners in life.
Winners meet life's challenges head on
knowing there are no guarantees
and give it all they've got.
It's never too late or too early to begin.
Time plays no favorites
and will pass whether you act or not.

Take control of your life.
Dare to dream and take risks.
If you aren't willing to work for your goals,
don't expect others to.

Believe in Yourself!

There was no author so I do not know who wrote this but I think sometimes we all need to know we are special in our own way.

farewell to autumn

A Fall Song

Golden and red trees

Nod to the soft breeze,

As it whispers, "Winter is near;"

And the brown nuts fall

At the wind's loud call, 

For this is the Fall of the year.

Good-by, sweet flowers!

Through bright Summer hours

You have filled our hearts with cheer

We shall miss you so,

And yet you must go,

This poem was assigned to Ram at school to memorize this month. I love it as much as I love fall, the smell, feel, the colors, the clothes (yes I said that, I love all those sweaters, scarfs and hats you can still wear without having to cover up every inch of skin) and the changes, as everything is dying but it is only getting ready to sleep through winter and wake up again in the spring.  We are getting ready for the Winter Solstice.
